Finding (and Giving) Warmth this Holiday Season

Fall.  The perfect time to snuggle up near a fire with a hot drink.  Unfortunately, not everyone is able to enjoy this luxury.  Did you know that on any given night, there are over 600,000 homeless people sleeping either in the streets or in some sort of facility across this country? Of those, over 130,000 are children under the age of 18.
In the last 10 years, over 5 million foreclosures have added to the homeless population. Sadly, once someone has been kicked out of their house, they can’t always find a shelter that will take them. There is only enough government assistance to help with rent for one out of every four extremely low income household, which results in over a third living in cars or under bridges. Particularly during the colder months of the year, the need for warmth is felt keenly.
Cleaning out our closets and donating any unused items such as hats, scarves, and winter coats still in good condition can be one great way to help others this season.  One other way is by treating yourself to warm weather goodies from Potter Productions.  How does it work?  For every hat you purchase, one will be donated to a homeless shelter, to help those “out in the cold” this holiday season.  Sound like a win-win?  It is!  So if you’re feeling inspired to give the gift of warmth this year… here are a few resources for you:
